In a tragic incident near Arya Vihar Ashram, Bisnapur, on the Gangotri National Highway, four people lost their lives, and two individuals were injured due to a vehicular accident. The vehicle involved in the accident was severely damaged, and the injured vehicle driver has been referred to Dehradun for medical treatment. Another injured person is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela visited the district hospital to inquire about the condition of the injured and met with the relatives of the deceased. He has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident and has expressed concerns about the continuous falling of stones at the accident site. To address this safety issue, the Irrigation Department and B.R.O. engineers have been sent for inspection, and Deputy District Magistrate Bhatwadi will coordinate this assessment.
It is reported that the accident occurred in the evening when an Omni Eco vehicle bearing registration number UK-10-TA-0941, en route from Uttarkashi to Dwarikeshwar village near Arya Vihar Ashram (Bisnapur), suddenly encountered a barrage of rocks from the hillside. The vehicle lost control and plunged approximately 50-60 meters down into the Bhagirathi River. The vehicle had six occupants, including the driver.
The victims of the accident include Indra Devi, wife of Uttam Singh (51 years), Mangal Devi, wife of Mangaldas (41 years), and Seva Lal, son of Karnalal from Salang village (57 years), who lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Durga Devi, wife of Dharam Singh (58 years) from Dwarikeshwar village, succumbed to her injuries upon reaching the district hospital. The bodies of the deceased are undergoing the necessary legal procedures, including post-mortem examinations.
